GLASGOW ANXIETY & DEPRESSION COUNSELLING SERVICE
and Scotland Anxiety and Depression Counselling Service
Hello and welcome to the GADS: Glasgow Anxiety and Depression Counselling Service (GADS) and Scotland Anxiety and depression Counselling Service (SADS) website. Thanks for dropping by! From our experience, many people of all ages and backgrounds worry that their problems, concerns or difficulties are not 'big enough’ or 'serious enough' to warrant help and support.
As far as we are concerned, if you are experiencing problems, concerns or difficulties that affect your life in some way, or you feel that you need to talk to someone about what's going on for you in life, it's important for you to seek the help and support you need and deserve. Evidence suggests that the sooner you receive support for anxiety or depression, from a professional, the more effectively and successfully you'll be able to start exploring your concerns, find ways to address problems and improve your quality of life. Just click on the service you want more information in the menu above or drop as an email if you have any questions or if you need any more information.
Sometimes we all need a bit of extra support and for someone to listen and help us work through whatever is bothering us. We also believe that change and recovery are possible. We believe that everyone with emotional or mental health concerns or other issues and problems in life is entitled to have a voice and express that voice. Therapy and counselling offers a supportive, encouraging, empathic and non-judgemental space in which to express that voice. We are here to listen and support you and work in accordance with your needs, preferences and pace.
We also advocate therapy and counselling being tailored as much as possible to each individual client and so, frequently, an integrative appraoch to therapy for anxiety and depression is often practiced,
GADS and SADS provides therapy, CBT, counselling, psychotherapy, support, training and education for various forms of anxiety and depression, including generalised anxiety, low mood, existential depression, panic disorder, OCD, situational depression, SAD, health anxiety, major depression and other forms of anxiety and depression. We can also provide support for various other concerns, difficulties and problems too as we understand that anxiety and depression often co-occur with other emotional, mental health and personal difficulties. We aim to raise awareness of mental health issues generally, in Scotland, whenever and wherever we can too.
The Clinical Director and Lead Psychotherapist (Accredited), Alexandra, and any Affiliate Therapists and Counsellors are all qualified and/or accredited psychotherapists and clinicians with specialised clinical training in psychotherapy and counsellingand practice as Integrative Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapists. Alexandra and her Affiliates all have experience of working with various forms of anxiety and depression. Our Therapists and Counsellors have also worked with many clients who are experiencing other concerns, difficulties and mental health issues, in addition to anxiety and depression, including: body image; stress; self-esteem; eating disorders; relationships; assertiveness; identity issues; grief; confidence; goal-setting; personality disorders; career/work goals; emotional distress; trauma; coping with difficult feelings and emotions and much more.
The Director, Alexandra, has undergraduate and postgraduate university degrees in Psychology and Psychological Research as well as degree in English. She hopes to undertake her Doctorate in Psychology in 2024. Alexandra has additional qualifications in other therapies such as Stress Management Therapy, Clinical Hypnotherapy as well as qualifications in clinical supervision, self-harm, suicide, training and development, group facilitation and much more. Our Director is a qualified and accredited Integrative Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, Clinical Supervisor, Trainer/Tutor/Lecturer, Consultant and Group Facilitator with previous experience as a charity director, psychology researcher, charity trustee and facilitator.
Alexandra and all Affiliates engage in regular Clinical Supervision (individual, group and peer supervision) and frequent Continuous Professional Development (CPD). Therapists and counsellors hold Professional Memberships with various organisations (e.g. COSCA, BABCP, BACP, NCS, UKCP, BPS, NMC, ASFH, NHC), have their own Professional Indemnity Insurance, hold PVG/Disclosure Scotland Membership and are registered with ICO's Data Protection Scheme.
Although we have academic and professional qualifications in psychotherapy, counselling and psychology, it's important to note that some of us also have personal experience of emotional and mental health issues and have now recovered. Some of us have been a carer/supporter of someone experiencing emotional or mental health issues too. This means we have an understanding of personal and mental health issues that many health professionals do not. Since 2010, we have worked with over 1000 people with various emotional, mental health and personal issues, of all ages and backgrounds, individually, in groups, face-to-face and online. We like to share this information with you so that you know you are in safe hands! Feel free to get in touch for more information.
